Born in the fall of 1982, Eric Haynes Swaim was raised in and around the city of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. A musician for most of his life, he played his first live gig at the age of twelve and went on his first multi-state tour by seventeen. He has continued to make music for over two decades as both a solo artist and with numerous bands such as The Driver, Love Craft, Motorist, Red Orchestra Radio, Honey Rider and his current group Dai Cheri. He has also made music for film and stage productions, and recently composed the theme song for the Infinity Lane web series.
Swaim has also worked on a variety of creative projects as a writer, director, designer and producer. He co-founded several small businesses in the food and beverage industry, most notably Hoots Beer Co. , and currently offers creative services out of Marquee Studios. He has served on numerous community boards where he led grant panels, community fundraisers and publicly-funded development projects. He served three years on the board of trustees for Arts Nouveau Winston-Salem and would go on to serve three years on the board of trustees for the Arts Council of Winston-Salem. He remains active in community advocacy through his position at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where he collaborates with food banks, neighborhood development groups, community gardens and various social justice organizations.
Swaim is also a student and his research is focused on the intersectional nature of social and environmental justice. In his free time he can be found riding his bike, lost in a book, lost in a film, cooking and enjoying vegan food or chatting it up with locals in a neighborhood dive.
